Below is a comment on another post from Gretchen (my 14 y.o. most faithful reader). I thought it deserved it's own post instead of just answering her comments.

like this american justice system really bugs me. especially with celebrities. celebrities will go to court for something bad and then they will get out because they are either famous or have the money to get themselves out. this recent michael jackson trial, he was obviously guilty for every single account. and oj simpson, also guilty, wynona ryder from a long time ago, also guilty. i dont think that is "for liberty and justice for all" do you? i mean if you or i had gone off and done those things we would probably be in jail right now. thats what really bugs me about the american justice system...and im proud of america and all that but i know im goin to become a lawyer when i get older and im going to stand for whats right and even if patricia heaton did something bad and wanted me to defend her...i would never do it.

I love your enthusiasm, something that isn’t found very often these days in someone your age. As much as I would love to say, “I agree” you know that isn’t possible. LOL... I agree that there are problems within our system. But I’m not willing to write it off because of these problems. Celebrities do seem to get preferential treatment. Of the cases you listed, I believe the Ryder case was the only one decided by a judge alone. The other two were jury trials.

A trial by jury is one of the things that makes our system of justice great. It’s true their verdicts are questionable sometimes, but it still stands heads taller than any other system in the world. The juries in the cases you mentioned sat in the courtroom every day and heard every word of evidence and made their decisions. We didn’t have that priveledge. I respect both juries for their verdicts.

Personally, I’ve never thought that OJ acted alone. I think he did kill Nicole but I’ve always doubted he had the strength to kill Ron Goldman. Michael? I’ll defer to the juror that stated that he/she thought there was a belief of guilt at some time in the past but that it wasn’t proven in this case. That’s what counts in a trial. Did the prosecution prove their case? It is after all “Innocent until PROVEN guilty”.

The decisions in these two trials will be discussed and argued for years to come. Isn’t free speech wonderful?

The Supreme Court....

The confirmation process for John Roberts to the Supreme Court should be interesting to say the least. I don't think there's any doubt that the president wants to leave his conservative legacy imprint upon the country. He has nominated a man who has no paper trail of opinions, who will if he lives to a normal lifespan be on the Court 25-30 years.

Chances are that this will not be the only nomination that Bush will be making. The Chief Justice with his health problems probably will not live to the end of 2008. Others on the Court are also aging to the point of retirement. We could possibly see Bush have two more opportunities to fill vacant spots.

For my younger audience, this is something that should concern you. The lifestyle that you lead could very well be affected by the decisions made in the next few months. I urge you to contact your Senators with your opinions on this and other nominations. Make your voices heard.

Wednesday morning....

There is little going on right now other than I have a summer cold. I still don't have my favorite computer up and running yet totally. I did resurrect it the other night after I murdered it! I was moving some infected files and it didn't like that! So after moving the hard drive to one of my other systems, I was able to move the files back and breathe life into it again. I guess I'm gonna have to install McAfee over there again and get rid of the virus. I wish it was that easy to get rid of this cold.

I think I caught it after getting soaked in one of our frequent afternoon showers the other day. I went into the grocery store wet and then got soaked again coming into the house. Me being wet and coming home to the A/C was a bad combination. Oh well, the joy of sniffles and the coughs.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the final month of this blog. I'm not sure if I'll continue blogging after this or not. I still have some issues to confront in this one that I've been avoiding but will before it ends. Daily life for me is rather boring but I'll continue if I get an inkling that any interest is there. Let me know folks... it's up to you.
