Susan Anne Catherine Torres

I don’t know what impact this child will have in life but it can’t be any more spectacular than her birth. She is 9 days old today. If you don’t recognize the name, she was borne from her mother who had been in a state of brain death since May 7th. Her mother had a stroke that day from an undiagnosed cancer that had spread to her brain.

The decision was made to keep the mother, Susan Torres, alive mechanically in hopes of reaching the 26th week of the pregnancy. That date was reached and the baby was born by C Section. Life support for Mrs. Torres was ended the next day.

In a world where news is delivered instantly and 99% of it is bad, this baby’s birth was a ray of sunshine. While the story is very sad in respect to the mother’s health, it was reported that her body actually got stronger at times during the ordeal. It was as though somehow she knew and approved of the procedures being taken.

Could she possibly? Not as we know it. But I believe that in a different realm she did know. And now this beautiful baby girl will shine as her legacy.
